Anti Aging Products And Remaining Healthy | Online Success Articles

?

By Allison Q. Phillips

Anti aging products are made to utilize substances found occurring natural in the world around you to benefit your health and keep you young. People have been hunting for a Fountain of Youth or Serum of Immortality throughout history since no one really wants to grow old and die. Although aging is an unavoidable part of life, there are several things you can do to ensure that your body and mind remain as healthy as possible for as long as possible. You must work out each and every week and eating only the healthiest foods is critical. What advantages can you gain by making an effort t improve your diet and fitness plan along with taking anti aging supplements?

For starters, you need to set up a meal plan that minimizes processed foods, fats, and sugars giving preference to nutrient rich foods instead. Your meal plans ought to bring into consideration the specific minerals and vitamins you want to include in your diet since relying on a supplement is not ideal. This allows you to take in the nutrients more efficiently and it also makes it easy for you to plan quality meals since you will be looking for foods containing vitamins and other important substances.

Most people have extremely busy schedules that have little to no room for a regular fitness routine. In spite of the inconvenience it might represent, finding time to get exercise is absolutely critical to warding off the aging process. Bringing together strength training with cardio exercise is the best way to maintain a high level of fitness and prevent the early onset of many illnesses that can wreak havoc on your quality of life now and in your later years.

Antioxidants have been shown to take a key role in stopping the aging process in its tracks, so they are found in anti aging products. Because a few of the best super fruits containing powerful antioxidants, like goji, noni, and acai, can be hard to find, the best way to get them is by using a supplement that includes their nutrients.

The key to eternal youth is yet to be discovered, but you can hold onto your health and strength for many years if you make smart choices. Exercising on a regular basis and eating properly are critical to looking and feeling young; anti aging products can help too.

Eating food is easy, writing about it, not at all easy. Keeping it fresh and interesting, accurate and useful is a constant challenge, but it's so very rewarding.

Stories about food bring back memories for people. They summon up romance and feelings of comfort. They can make the mouth water or the lips pucker. After some noshing and imbibing from the cash bar, complete with special cocktail, the five authors will read from their work and after, we can all hang out for dessert and more imbibing. I can walk home, which is great. You can order the books through RiverRun Bookstore and have the authors sign them when you're at the event.

Tickets are limited and you can buy them at www.slowfoodseacoast.com.

So, who are these food writers?

One of them is Joe Yonan. He's the food and travel editor of The Washington Post (formerly at the Boston Globe). The team at the Post has twice been awarded the James Beard Foundation award for the nation's best newspaper food section. He also writes features for both Food and Travel, including the monthly "Cooking for One" column, which won honors from the Association of Food Journalists. He's the author of "Serve Yourself: Nightly Adventures in Cooking for One," from Ten Speed Press, and the coauthor of "The Fearless Chef" with Boston chef Andy Husbands. Now, he's up in the Berwick area homesteading for a year and writing about it. Check out his blog at www.joeyonan.com.

Also living in South Berwick, Maine, is Kathy Gunst, author of 14 cookbooks including the Stonewall Kitchen series and her new and wonderfully readable "Notes from a Maine Kitchen." She's resident chef of Public Radio's "Here & Now," works with students at Central School in South Berwick to help them grow and learn about fresh food and writes for Downeast Magazine. Find her blog on Downeast Magazine at www.downeast.com/blogs/notesfromamainekitchen, www.kathygunst.com.

Amy Traverso is food editor of Yankee Magazine and the author of "The Apple Lovers Cookbook," an International Association of Culinary Professionals finalist. Previously, she was food editor at Boston Magazine and an associate food editor at Sunset Magazine. Her work has also appeared in The Boston Globe, Salon.com, and Travel & Leisure, and she has appeared on "The Martha Stewart Show," "Throwdown with Bobby Flay," and Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares." http://appleloverscookbook.com.

Then we have Erin Murray, author of "Shucked: Life on a New England Oyster Farm." While food editor at Daily Candy Boston, she met with a sales rep from Island Creek Oyster Farm, decided to quit her job and spend a year harvesting, hauling, and counting oysters with their crew. She wrote a book about her experiences out in the cold harvesting oysters and what she learned along the way. Read her blog here: http://shucked.wordpress.com/

Of course, I'll be there too. I am the restaurant reviewer/food writer for the Portsmouth Herald and author of "Maine Classics: More than 150 Delicious Recipes from Downeast," which I wrote with Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier from Arrows Restaurant. I'm not sure what I'll be reading yet, but you'll certainly get to sample dishes from recipes in the book. I'll likely mix in some columns and samples from my novel in progress, which has a heavy food element.

As each author reads, guests will savor and sample prepared dishes from recipes in the author's books. The evening will also highlight an abundance of oysters from the region, and an opportunity to experience a taste of place. Tickets are $60 and include food, readings, coffee and dessert. Proceeds from this fund-raiser support ongoing educational programs and heirloom seed distribution for Slow Food projects within our community. Tickets are limited, so register as soon as possible to reserve a space for what promises to be an incredible evening of food and fun. Sponsors include Organic Valley Cooperative Dairy, J.P.'s Shellfish, Island Creek Oysters, Beach Pea Baking Co., Byrne and Carlson Chocolatier, Favorite Foods, RiverRun Bookstore and Haigh & Martino.

Rachel Forrest's food and drink column Wine Me Dine Me appears Thursdays in Go&Do. Her restaurant review column, Dining Out, appears Thursdays in Spotlight magazine. Verizon confirms Jetpack MiFi 4620L will be available April 12th for $50 on-contract

It's taken considerably longer to roll out than the few weeks that were promised back at CES in January, but Verizon has now confirmed that the Novatel-built, LTE-capable Jetpack MiFi 4620L will be available on April 12th for $49.99. That's on the usual two-year contract, of course, and after a $50 mail-in rebate. In addition to supporting up to ten WiFi connection, it also notably has a removable battery that can be swapped out for a higher capacity 3000mAh unit (double the capacity of the included the one). Look for it at Verizon stores and Verizon's website initially, with a roll out to Best Buy locations following shortly thereafter.

Hammerhead shark double whammy

Monday, March 26, 2012

Identity confusion between a new, yet unnamed shark species, originally discovered off the eastern United States by Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center (NSU-OC) researchers, and its look-alike cousin?the endangered scalloped hammerhead shark?may threaten the survival of both species.

According to an April 2012 article in the scientific journal Marine Biology, the new look-alike hammerhead species has now been discovered more than 4,300 miles away near the coast of southern Brazil. This confirms that the original finding was not a local oddity and the new species is much wider spread. The look-alike species may face the same fishery pressures as the real scalloped hammerhead, which is being fished unsustainably for its highly prized fins.

"It's a classic case of long-standing species misidentification that not only casts further uncertainty on the status of the real scalloped hammerhead but also raises concerns about the population status of this new species," says professor Mahmood Shivji, Ph.D., who oversaw the new research at the NSU-OC's Save Our Seas Shark Center USA and Guy Harvey Research Institute.

Tens of millions of sharks are being killed for their fins and meat worldwide, resulting in dramatic reductions in shark populations and concerns about the broad scale negative impacts to ocean ecosystems. This has prompted international protection and other management efforts to reduce the unsustainable slaughter of sharks.

"It's very important to officially recognize, name and learn more about this new hammerhead species and the condition of its populations through systematic surveys," Shivji says. "Without management intervention to curtail its inadvertent killing, we run the risk that overfishing could eradicate an entire shark species before its existence is even properly acknowledged."

Shivji's team first discovered the new hammerhead species in 2005 when examining the DNA of sharks thought to be scalloped hammerheads based on their physical appearance. A research team from the University of South Carolina independently confirmed the existence of the new species in 2006.

Combining genetic assessments of NSU and South Carolina researchers shows that at least 7 percent of the sharks in U.S. waters originally thought to be scalloped hammerheads turned out to be the new species. This means that the population of the endangered real scalloped hammerhead in U.S. waters is probably smaller than originally thought.

The status of the scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini) is currently under review by the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service to determine if it warrants listing as threatened or endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. It's already on the red list of endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). The new species is on neither list.

"We hope that during this important scalloped hammerhead status review, the new look-alike species will be recognized, and possible impacts of historical mix-ups between the two species on past scalloped hammerhead stock assessments will be considered," says Shivji.

According to Danillo Pinhal, Ph.D., an assistant professor at the UNESP-S?o Paulo State University in Brazil who performed the lab work as a visiting graduate student in Shivji's laboratory in 2009, "the finding of this species all the way down in Brazilian waters, where hammerhead sharks are heavily fished, raises concerns about the population status of both species not just in U.S. waters but throughout the western Atlantic. It's an international issue now and it's essential that further research on this new species be conducted in Brazilian waters."

Other than differences in their DNA, the two shark species also differ in their number of vertebrae. The new look-alike species has approximately 20 fewer vertebrae than the scalloped hammerhead, in the range of 170 vs. 190. An analysis of the DNA suggests that the new species and the scalloped hammerhead separated from each other approximately 4.5 million years ago, a surprisingly long time given how similar they look externally.

There are three well-documented species of large hammerhead sharks (scalloped, great and smooth hammerheads), and their fins have high value in the international shark fin trade. The finding of this new hammerhead now brings the total to four large species with this unique hammerhead shape.

Hammerheads and other large sharks have been overfished for years. Scientists are concerned that further reductions in their numbers and biodiversity may irreversibly alter the ocean's intricate food web and upset ecosystem balance. For example, a high-profile study has shown that the large reduction of sharks off the U.S. East Coast is associated with a huge increase in the population of one of their prey --- the cownose ray --- which in turn has then been responsible for overeating the bay scallop, dramatically reducing the supply of scallops for the fishing industry.

An extinct species of scops owl has been discovered in Madeira

Friday, March 23, 2012

An international team of scientists, including some from Majorca and the Canary Islands, have described a new type of fossil scops owl, the first extinct bird on the archipelago of Madeira (Portugal). Otus mauli, which was also the first nocturnal bird of prey described in the area, lived on land and became extinct as a result of humans arriving on the island.

Twenty years ago, the German researcher Harald Pieper discovered fossil remains of a small nocturnal bird of prey in Madeira, which, until now, had not been studied in depth. The international team of palaeontologists has shown that the remains belong to a previously unknown extinct species of scops owl, which they have called Otus mauli.

"It has long legs and wings slightly shorter than the continental European scops owl from which it derives" Josep Antoni Alcover, one of the authors of the study and researcher at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA), a mixed centre of the university of the Balearic Islands and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

The result of the analysis of the proportions of the remains found, which has been published in the journal Zootaxa, reveals that Otus mauli could be a land inhabiting species that ate invertebrates and "occasionally lizards or birds".

"It is likely that their extinction is linked to the arrival of humans and the fauna they brought with them", Alcover explains. He also points out that their disappearance formed part of a pattern of extinction of the island's species, which occurred in virtually all the islands of the world.

According to researchers, amongst the causes of extinction of this scops owl, the destruction of its habitat is highlighted, as Madeira had a lot of serious fires during the seven years that followed the Portuguese arrival. Furthermore, humans brought new birds with diseases that were unfamiliar to the native species, as well as rats and mice that could prey on eggs of animals that had nests close to the ground.

Exclusive to Madeira?

The same or a similar species has been investigated in Porto Santo, another island of the archipelago of Madeira. "This is extremely interesting" the researcher says, "but difficult to assess because the materials found are limited and fragmented".

"If the scops owls of Madeira and Porto Santo were different species, it would mean that the Otus' flying ability is much more limited than continental scops owls. The distance between the two islands would be enough to isolate them" Alcover points out.

The homogeneity of the scops owls' measurements on the two islands, as well as the differences compared to European scops owls suggests that they were genetically isolated from the European populations. The distance between the continent and the island was enough to explain the difference in the species.

On this island they expect to discover new species of birds in the near future "which will report a world that disappeared just a few hundred years ago". "The same thing will happen in the Azores islands where there is already evidence that a scops owl different to the ones in Madeira and Europe that is also extinct" the scientist says.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G Review

Introduction:

Do you happen to love the dreamy specs associated with T-Mobile?s version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, but prefer something a bit more form fitting in the hand and less expensive? Well then, the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G might be the device you?re after, not only for the simple reason it?s similar in the specs departments while maintaining a more compact figure, but it?s also going to be trail blazing with its speedy 42Mbps HSPA+ data connectivity. Although it?s technically still a part of the original Samsung Galaxy S line, it should prove to be a smoking addition, so let?s find out if it?s worth picking up.

Design:

In typical fashion, the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G exhibits the usual design characteristics akin to Samsung?s stable ? meaning it?s all-plastic and very lightweight. Interestingly, it actually looks similar to the BlackBerry Torch 9860, because of the way its bezel curves towards its top edge. Even though its overall design isn?t particularly polarizing over other things, above all, we?re fascinated most above its smaller footprint over the previous Samsung Vibrant and Galaxy S 4G, even more when it packs the same 4-inch sized display.

You can compare the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G with many other phones using our Size Visualization Tool.

Donning the usual four capacitive Android buttons, they?re positioned close one another and towards the bottom edge ? thus, causing us to accidentally pressing them at times. Meanwhile, there?s a front-facing camera above the display ready to take 1280 x 960 resolution self-portraits.

On one hand, we like the distinct feel of its volume control, but its dedicated power button is flat to the touch ? albeit, both deliver springy responses when pressed. In addition, we find other customary things around its sides such as its 3.5mm headset jack, microUSB port, microphone, and spring loaded microSD slot.
Knowing that this handset bears some respectable specs, it?s fitting that we find a 5-megapixel snapper with LED flash in the rear ? plus, it?s capable of shooting 720p videos. Prying off its soft touch rear cover, we?re given access to its SIM card slot and 1,750 mAh battery.

Display:

Surely enough, we still can?t get over the fact that this Blaze 4G is packing a 4-inch display, especially when its overall footprint is smaller than the previous models with such screen. Employing a WVGA (480 x 800) Super AMOLED display, we?re naturally entranced by the poppy and saturated colors it?s able to deliver ? while still maintaining clarity thanks to its wide viewing angles. Despite employing a PenTile matrix arrangement, it?s sharp enough to visibly see fine text with relatively few issues. All in all, it?s a beauty, but then again, that?s common thing accompanying this kind of panel.

Apple's nano-SIM proposal draws fire from Motorola, Nokia, RIM

Image
Giesecke & Devrient's nano-SIM design is fueling quite the standards battle over in Europe, with Apple sitting in one corner, and the troika of Motorola, Nokia and RIM looming in the other. That's according to the Financial Times, which reports today that Cupertino is leading a charge to push its own nano-SIM proposal through Europe's standards body, ETSI, much to the chagrin of its competitors. According to FT's sources, Apple's version of the nano-SIM would call for a "drawer" to protect it, much like the designs already featured in the iPhone and iPad. Though the standard would be available to all manufacturers under license, there's a lingering fear that Apple may eventually own all the patents pertaining to its proposal. Plus, its rivals would have to re-engineer their handsets to meet Apple's proposed design, even though Nokia claims its solution offers "significant technical advantages." ETSI is slated to vote on the proposals next week, but FT claims that the company has already garnered support from most of Europe's providers. Just to be sure, though, Cupertino is applying to become the largest voting member at ETSI, and is looking to register a full six European subsidies under its name. Each subsidy can wield up to 45 votes, meaning that if approved, Apple would overtake Nokia as the organization's largest voting body. Nokia, for its part, has filed a document in protest.

Apple's nano-SIM proposal draws fire from Motorola, Nokia, RIM originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 21 Mar 2012 00:41:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Vets face another battle: Finding a job

Ralph Orlowski / Getty Images

The unemployment rate for 18- to 24-year-old veterans who have served since Sept. 11 was 30.2 percent in 2011.

By Allison Linn

The job market in this country has been gradually improving, except for some veterans: A new report finds that the situation has actually gotten a little?worse for recent veterans who are trying to find work.

The unemployment rate for veterans who have served since Sept. 11 was 12.1 percent on average in 2011, according to a government report released Tuesday. That?s slightly higher than in 2010, when the average unemployment rate for the year was 11.5 percent.

That?s the opposite of how it is for nonveterans. The unemployment rate for nonveterans averaged 8.7 percent in 2011, down from 9.4 percent in 2010.

The situation is especially dismal for young vets. The unemployment rate for 18- to 24-year-old veterans who have served since Sept. 11 was 30.2 percent in 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. For 25- to 34-year-old veterans from that era it was 13 percent.

Unemployment is a particular problem for those veterans who have served since Sept. 11. The unemployment rate for all veterans, including those who served in previous conflicts, averaged 8.3 percent in 2011, down just slightly from 8.7 percent a year earlier.

Experts say young veterans are at a disadvantage in part because they have been serving in the military while other young people were going to college or a trade school and making connections in their field of choice.

These more recent vets also may be finding that the skills they learned in the military don?t translate directly into a new job because they lack the certification or training that they need to do the same job in civilian life.

In general, the unemployment rate for younger workers also has been higher than for older workers over the past few years.

Private groups, government agencies and some elected officials have been working to smooth the path for young veteran jobseekers. It?s a problem that?s expected to get worse as more troops withdraw from the Gulf and the military grapples with budget cutbacks.

?Our veterans have made sacrifices on behalf of the nation, and I ask all employers to renew their commitment to veterans, because the best way to honor our veterans is to employ them. No veteran should have to fight for a job at home after fighting to protect our nation,? Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said in statement Tuesday.

Holistic Healing for MS | Health and Fitness

The ability of the human body to maintain health and overcome illness is among nature?s most remarkable gifts, but sometimes it gets overwhelmed and help is needed. There are a multitude of healing systems out there so it can be confusing to find the ones that work best for you. We are all individuals and what helps one person to recover might do nothing for another with the same illness. The key is to be open minded and go with what feels right for you.

I experienced this for myself in 2001, when I was diagnosed with MS and had problems walking, lifting my arms, sitting and concentrating. I was terrified at the prospect of ending up in a wheelchair, so I dedicated myself to doing whatever it took to regain my health. The first step was to learn all that I could about nutrition because your body is only as healthy as what you put into it. Gentle Qi Gong exercises several times a day helped to get the life force flowing from within, and when I got stronger daily walking allowed me to connect with the serenity of Nature.

Releasing and letting go of emotional and mental baggage also played an important role in my recovery as did maintaining a positive outlook. I researched, learned and practiced numerous healing methods so that I could find the ones that worked for me. All of this helped to restore me to complete well-being in less than one year, and today I enjoy hiking, jogging, dancing, and feeling incredibly grateful for my recovered life.

Studying and using so many healing methods- first on myself and later on friends and clients ? I have come to appreciate the great potential of energy medicine which is an innovative blend of ancient wisdom with contemporary non-invasive healing techniques. Norman Sheally, M.D., President of the American Holistic Medical Association says that, ?Energy medicine is the future of all medicine.? Over the years I have created a special blend of these methods and exercises which work in harmony to restore the body and the mind to their natural balance.

One of my favorite modalities is Eden Energy Medicine (EEM) which is a powerful practice that works mostly with the three main energy systems of the body: the meridians, the chakras, and the aura. The meridians are invisible channels that carry energy in and through every part of your body. The chakras are concentrated energy centers that correspond to specific organs and distinct aspects of your personality. The aura (scientists call it the biofield) is a multilayered shell of energy that emanates from your body and interacts with the environment. EEM uses techniques from various natural healing traditions to restore and maintain your body?s flow, harmony and health. It does this through tapping, massaging, connecting acupoints, balancing chakras, weaving the bio-field and other exercises. All of these are designed for specific energetic effects and together they strengthen the immune system, release stress, sharpen the mind, balance your hormones and ease pain.

A simple EEM exercise that you can try right now will boost your energy in a healthier and more effective way than having a cup of coffee. It?s called ?Tapping the Thymus? which is a gland located in the middle of your chest. Tap on the center of your sternum (also known as the ?Tarzan Spot?) for 30 seconds while breathing deeply in through the nose and out through the mouth. The benefits of this exercise include not only stimulating your overall energy, but also activating your immune system and increasing your strength.

Concentrating on the physical body alone for healing is often not enough because unresolved conflicts in the emotional and mental bodies can drain away your vital life force. Releasing past hurts through forgiveness and learning to really love and honor yourself are extremely important for overall well being.

A wonderfully effective tool for accomplishing this is EFT (Emotional Freedom Therapy) which is a powerful process that has proven itself successful in many scientific studies. It works on a variety of health and emotional issues, even those that have been resistant to other methods. It can be learned and applied rapidly which has contributed to its popularity among millions of people.

The way that it works is quite simple: you tap with your fingertips on specific meridian points to input kinetic energy into your system and at the same time you think about and voice the specific problem that you are working on. This combination of tapping the energy meridian and voicing the problem works to clear the ?short circuit? ? the emotional block ? that is disturbing your body?s bio-energy system.

Your body is a miracle. It is comprised of about 50 trillion cells which work together tirelessly every minute of the day performing the countless complex tasks that keep you alive and well. This cosmic dance is beautifully designed to maintain optimum health and overcome any form of illness.

The goal of Holistic Healing is to enhance this natural process by focusing on your body as a living system of energy with powerful healing capacity. You maximize this capacity by actively participating in your own wellbeing and listening to the wisdom of your heart which will keep you on the path toward health and happiness.

There is a kind and benevolent force in the Universe that is always there? when you reach out it will always reach back to you.

Flood Insurance ? Blackadar Insurance Agency ? Serving ...

Flooding is the United States? #1 natural hazard. While homeowner?s insurance won?t cover you against flooding, you can protect your home and property by purchasing a flood insurance policy separately through your local insurance agent.

Many people are under the impression that they are ineligible for flood insurance because of where they live, or their mortgage status. But the truth is, as long as your hometown is a National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) community, most homeowners, business owners and renters can get flood insurance. We urge you to learn the flood insurance basics:

  • You CAN get flood insurance nationwide.
  • You CAN get flood insurance if you live in a floodplain or high-flood-risk area.
  • You CAN get flood insurance if you live outside a floodplain, or a low-to-moderate flood-risk area ? and at lower cost.
  • You CAN get flood insurance if your property has been flooded before.
  • You CAN get flood insurance from insurance agents in?your area.
  • You CAN get flood insurance even if your mortgage broker doesn?t require it.

As with any other type of insurance, it?s important to know what a flood insurance policy does and doesn?t cover. For example, damage caused by a sewer backup is only covered by flood insurance if it?s a direct result of flooding. The damage is not covered if the backup is caused by some other problem. For a complete summary of residential coverage, go to What?s Covered.

Having the proper information about your flood risk and protection options, will allow you to make better informed decisions to protect your home and personal belongings.

Volkswagen targeting revenue rise in 2012

BERLIN (AP) ? Volkswagen AG, Europe's biggest carmaker by sales, said Monday it was targeting a further increase in deliveries and revenues in 2012 despite difficult trading conditions in some European countries.

Volkswagen, which overtook Japan's Toyota last year to become the world's second biggest car company by total deliveries behind General Motors, sold nearly 8.3 million vehicles last year, a 14.7 percent rise from the previous year's figure. In doing so it pushed above 8 million for the first time ever as well as overtaking Toyota, whose supply chain was hit by the devastating earthquake and tsunami a year ago.

The company also said it expects to increase deliveries again in 2012, helped by new models across the group, which includes brands such as SEAT, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Skoda. It also said it expects higher revenue, though it gave no precise figure.

Volkswagen said its goal for operating profit this year is to match last year's euro11.27 billion and that cost controls will play a key role in the face of an "increasingly stiff competition in a challenging market environment, especially in certain European countries." A number of European countries are heading for recession in light of the debt crisis that's been ravaging the single currency zone. Even Germany, Europe's richest economy, has not been immune. In the final three months of 2011, it contracted by a quarterly rate of 0.2 percent.

Volkswagen shares were 2 percent lower at euro139.95 in early afternoon Frankfurt trading.

The company's latest update came as it confirmed preliminary full-year figures, which showed earnings in 2011 were boosted by accounting factors related to the company's stalled takeover of Porsche. For the whole year, Volkswagen net earnings hit euro15.41 billion, more than doubling the previous year's figures. Revenues rose 26 percent to euro159.34 billion.

Fourth-quarter revenues rose by a quarter to euro43.06 billion from euro34.33 billion but net earnings fell 32 percent against the same period last year to euro2.16 billion ($2.8 billion). It didn't detail reasons for that change.

The company's record full-year performance helped nearly double CEO Martin Winterkorn's pay.

In its annual report, VW said that it totaled euro17.46 million, compared with euro9.33 million in 2010. The rise was fueled by an increase in Winterkorn's bonus to euro11 million from euro4.8 million.

The eight-member management board's total remuneration increased to euro70.59 million from the previous year's euro36.67 million ? more than half the total in bonuses.
