Killeen native Eric Nellis didn't have to think too much about his decision to run for mayor of his hometown. Killeen's current mayor has reached the term limit.

"Given the current situation in Killeen, with the current mayor being done, that this would be the right opportunity for me to run,? he said. ?That way I'm not starting off by running against a current mayor."

While it's the first run for this home improvement salesman, he feels his job allows him to be in tune with residents.

"I visit with people every single day through my work,? Nellis said. ?I think that that positions me well to be able to address the thoughts and concerns of the people in the community."

At the same time, Nellis said he represents change at a time when voters will also be replacing five city council members recalled by voters this past November.

"I'm giving the voters in Killeen an opportunity to actually have a fresh start if they truly want a fresh start,? he said. ?Which I think they do."

Election Day is May 12.
